Yesterday, the Biden campaign announced their transition plan website detailing "Day One" changes the campaign would be making, many of which have already entered the planning phase. Among these initiatives is a plan to invest $25B into the development of a COVID-19 vaccine to be made free to the public.
Today, Biden announced the "group of leading scientists and experts as transition advisers" as promised yesterday.
The Transition COVID-19 Advisory Board will be led by co-chairs Dr. David Kessler, Dr. Vivek Murthy, and Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith. Dr. Beth Cameron and Dr. Rebecca Katz are serving as advisors to the Transition on COVID-19 and will work closely with the Advisory Board.
A full list of the current board members is outlined in a news release on Build Back Better, the campaign's transition plan website along with a brief bio of each individual.
As announced yesterday, Drs. David Kessler and Vivek Murphy will spearhead the board. Kessler served as the FDA Commissioner in the 90s under George H.W. bush as well as President Bill Clinton. Murphy was the 19th Surgeon General of the United states between 2014 and 2017. His team of officers was dedicated to the response to the Ebola and Zika virus scares and was in charge of the response to the Flint water crisis.
On the heels of the announcement of Pfizer and BioNTech's 90% effective COVID-19 vaccine this morning, Biden provided an update on Periscope on the state of COVID-19.
Biden referenced the board in his speech which largely summarized the president-elect's transition plan adding "We'll seek to add different members to this board...throughout the transition."
