221B Baker Street Hub

The hansom cab ride back to Baker Street was a journey through a ghost world. The yellow "pea-souper" fog had grown so thick that the driver had to walk beside his horse, lantern in hand, to navigate the treacherous curves of Marylebone. Inside 221B, the fire had burned low, but the room felt far from cold—it was charged with the electric energy of Holmes’s mind.

He didn't remove his cape. Instead, he swept the books and papers off the central table, spreading a large-scale map of London across the wood. He pinned it down with a pocket knife and a magnifying glass. "The clock is our most formidable adversary now, Watson," he said, checking his pocket watch. "The Count is dead, the treaty is gone, and the fog provides the perfect shroud for a phantom. We cannot afford a single wasted step."

He lit a single gas lamp, casting long, dancing shadows against the wall. He pointed his long, thin finger at three distinct locations he had circled in red ink. "Logic dictates three points of vulnerability. We must choose our point of entry into this web carefully. One false move and the trail will vanish into the Thames."

Watson reached for his service revolver, checking the chamber. "I am ready, Holmes. Where does the search begin?"

Holmes looked at the map, his eyes glittering with a predatory light. "The Foreign Office, where the political wolves howl; the Count’s private study, where his secrets lie buried; or the Limehouse Docks, where the whispers of the underworld congregate. The choice is ours, but the consequences belong to history."
